Position overview

Location: Philippines remote (Australia business hours focus). Employment type: Part-time. Hours of work: 15 hours per week. Reporting to: Business Owner / Director.

Position objective

The primary aim of this role is to provide dedicated bookkeeping and financial administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the business's accounts. This role requires a professional who can work independently and with a high degree of accuracy, managing the day-to-day financial health of the business using MYOB. The successful candidate will own financial outcomes and provide the Business Owner with clear, reliable data to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

1. Core bookkeeping & MYOB management

  • Maintain and update business accounts within MYOB with a high level of data accuracy.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring all entries are coded correctly to the chart of accounts.
  • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure system balances match actual statements.
  • Manage and process payroll, including tracking leave entitlements and ensuring compliance with Australian Superannuation requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and lodgment of Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Installment Activity Statements (IAS).

2. Financial administration & reporting

  • Generate and provide weekly or monthly financial reports, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets, for the Business Owner.
  • Monitor aged receivables and perform debt collection tasks as required to maintain healthy cash flow.
  • Manage expense claims and ensure all receipts and records are properly filed and compliant with ATO standards.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or queries related to invoices or ledger entries.

3. Compliance & quality assurance

  • Ensure all financial data entry complies with Australian accounting standards and company policies.
  • Follow system workflows correctly to maintain consistent and organized financial documentation.
  • Conduct regular audits of the MYOB portal to ensure data hygiene and identify potential errors before finalization.
  • Ensure all financial records are up to date and properly filed for end-of-year tax preparation.

4. Stakeholder engagement

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and customers regarding financial inquiries.
  • Act as a reliable point of contact for the business's external Accountant where necessary.
  • Provide proactive feedback to the Business Owner on opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.

Requirements & qualifications

Key selection criteria

  • Technical expertise: Advanced proficiency and hands-on experience in MYOB (essential).
  • Accounting knowledge: Strong understanding of Australian bookkeeping principles, GST, and payroll legislation.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently for 15 hours per week, managing time effectively without constant supervision.
  • Attention to detail: Exceptional accuracy in data entry and financial record-keeping.
  • Communication skills: Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills suitable for clear communication with Australia-based stakeholders.

Key performance indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy: 100% accuracy in bank reconciliations and data entry.
  • Timeliness: All payroll and BAS-related tasks completed by the required statutory deadlines.
  • Reporting: Consistent and timely delivery of financial reports to the Business Owner.
  • Data hygiene: Minimal corrections required during end-of-month or end-of-year reviews.
